year of the germ

We've been sick since January 21st. Just when we think we're getting better, we get something else. We've had the flu and colds and stomach flus and completely unidentifiable illnesses. We're not sure if it's the transition to the east coast and the new set of germs, the minimal exposure to other kids from Maple's weekly hour of day care, or perhaps our house is host to some kind of mold that is slowly killing us, but whatever it is, it sucks. In a typical year, we might each get one small cold, but this year is the year of the germ in the O'Callaghan family. We pass one strain around for a while and then a new strain enters the family and we pass that one around. No one is healthy for more than 14 hours before the next germ takes hold. Have I mentioned we are sick and we hate it?

our sofa is no longer a piece of furniture. it is a tiny red outcrop sure to become a slippery little niche as soon as i run out of tissues for maple's nose.
