Yesterday we went to Walden Pond. It was a perfect day -- not too sunny, not windy or hot or rainy. We circumnavigated the pond (about 3 miles) on a well graded trail. At the half-way point, we found a lovely solitary swimming spot. There was a break in the fence and three large rocks that led down to the water, so we took off our hiking boots and went for a swim.
The water was as perfect as the rest of the day -- not hot or cold. There were hundreds of people at the "beach" across the pond, but we had our own private swimming spot. Maple swam and did water somersaults, and Sean folded himself into a nook in the rocks and floated for a while. After a while, we got out, got dressed, and walked the rest of the way around the pond.
Afterwards, we had lunch at an Indian restaurant, then we went home and took a long nap.
When we woke up, we got Maple ready to hang out with Pollyanna. Polyanna is a friend of our regular babysitter Fernanda, who just had a baby and is on babysitting maternity leave. She picked Maple up at 5:45 and took her to the toy store and bought her a set of plates and dinnerware, to her house to meet her parrots and parents and husband and cat, to Fernanda's to meet the new baby, and to the mall to eat sushi. It was so action-packed and fun, that Maple cried when Polyanna told her they were coming home.
Meanwhile Sean and I went to see the Batman movie, which was actually pretty decent, I thought. Twice during the evening, I called Polyanna to tell her something or check on Maple, and she never answered her phone! Isn't that a babysitter rule, that you must have your phone around if the parents call? But then we got home and Maple was so happy that we couldn't be annoyed.
It was a perfect, family day.
