Maple got a new bike last Friday (thanks to Grandma and Pa) and went from not being able to get on the bike by herself, to riding three miles to meet me at work yesterday. Since she never had a tricycle, she had no idea how to pedal at first. We took the training wheels off for her first ride, but we quickly realized that she wanted to be able to ride the bike by herself and was getting frustrated by having to be pushed (held up) by one of us. So we put the training wheels back on, and she learned all about pedaling and steering, just like she would have on a trike. We were amazed at how quickly she learned. On Friday she couldn't figure out how to get on the bike, on Saturday she was shrieking every time she moved, on Sunday she was speeding around the common (I had to run to keep up with her), and on Monday she rode up and down hills to pick me up at work. Her dad is an excellent teacher; she's learned about momentum, steering, and feathering her brakes. He is so good that he's earned the right to teach her to drive.
Speaking of Sean, he got some amazing news today. I would publicly give him the assignment to write a post about the amazing news, but it turns out that he'll be doing a lot more writing in the next few weeks, and I don't mean no blog post.
