maple is three months old today. actually she is 12 weeks today, and i guess she'll be three months on november 6th.
here is an adorable picture of her from our friends' photostream (nancy, scott, and stellina).
she has quite a lot of personality now. she loves to laugh. today i was changing her diaper and decided to distract her by telling a story. i told her the story of her birth, and i kept stopping at the part where she was "all crunched up" in my belly, and at that point i would fold her up into a ball and say "aaaaaalll crunched up!" she laughed harder than she ever has.
she is getting really adept at grabbing things. she grabs our faces and hands and hair. she grabs my shirt when she's nursing, and her toys when they are in the general vicinity of her flailing arms. she is starting to recognize people, which i learned yesterday when i brought her to work and someone told me she was looking for me when i was out of sight. sure enough, i walked back towards her and she lit up like a christmas tree.
she seems really happy, which i find puzzling. are all humans born happy? i don't feel like we've done anything to create a happy kid, she just came out that way.
last night, sean and i went on our first post-maple date. maple stayed with her good friends susie and bob, and apparently she was her usual happy self. sean and i saw the musical city of angels at our local playhouse. it was really cute, and it was nice to go out. but i don't think i'm one of those people who needs lots of time away from the baby. i am never happier than when the three of us are together.
