why haven't i done this before? i have thought about it many times, but there was always a reason not to. community supported agriculture is basically a subscription to organic produce. once a week, you get fresh organic goods delivered to a local pickup spot. at $400 for a season, it has to be cheaper than the farmer's market, and definitely cheaper than shopping. and the adventure of it seems really fun. what am i going to do with four pounds of lettuce? okay, i'm having a salad party! or the fall conundrum of what to do with too much squash? make extra baby food and freeze it!

i hope one of the local farms will still sell us a share, even though we're about halfway through the season. i want my weekly box of organic produce! i think it will help us stick to our budget. and who knows, we may get a shitload of carrots! think of the juicing possibilities.

maple went to sleep at 9 tonight, so i'm up doing laundry and reading and wondering why i have been such an imperialist slug. did you know they have vegan cookbooks at the library? so i can try them out before spending our hard-earned money on them? i also realize i really need some vegan friends because pariahdom is kind of sad. the west coast is strangely lacking in actual vegans. i guess there is too much good fish here or something.

lately i feel the need to move on. this happens once every few years, but fortunately i'm marrying someone (in just over a month!) who is always game to pick up and go. lately we've been thinking of vermont, but i also dream about new york city, vancouver, and taos. and of course big sur. i miss big sur a lot and have a strong feeling that i will never see it again. i can't imagine what it would be like to be there now, but i really want maple to see it. it's a special part of her history, whether she will ever know it or not.

on to more practical concerns -- i think the washer is overflowing again.
